The project investigates, based on evidence, how Vale’s vocational training programs in Pará and Maranhão contribute to human and territorial development, in line with the company’s social ambition and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), as well as with SDGs 5 (gender equality) and 10 (reducing inequalities).
Over the last decade, thousands of people have gone through Vale’s training programs, but not all of the graduates have been directly absorbed, which raises the hypothesis that the training promoted may have broader positive effects, spilling over into other sectors of the local economy. The project seeks to identify the factors that influence the professional success of these beneficiaries, both inside and outside the company, and to understand how these trajectories impact their communities. The research also aims to fill an important gap: the scarcity of in-depth studies on the labor market in the Amazon region, where access to quality technical education is still limited.
