The project aims to produce technical and scientific knowledge about the coastal territory of Maranhão, especially in the area of influence of the Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal (TMPM), in order to support port environmental management with a comprehensive socio-environmental database (physical, biological, and social aspects).
The growing demand for qualified data to support licensing, compliance with conditions, and the preparation of plans to mitigate socio-environmental impacts is the starting point for the project. The diagnosis brings together information on topics such as socioeconomics, geological, chemical and physical oceanography, meteorology, groundwater resources, plankton, benthos, herpetofauna, coastal avifauna, ichthyofauna, aquatic mammals, and coastal vegetation. This effort is intended to guarantee the availability, quality, and interoperability of the data, which will be used in decision-making processes and environmental management strategies.
